So what will your book look like? Perhaps as you are writing
a book you have in mind what colors you like, how many
pages it will have or what the inside will feel like. But perhaps
you do not.
When writing a book, every writer
must have an image of what the published book will
look like. It helps the writer keep writing
daily during the entire book writing process.

Early in your writing, you must visit your
favorite bookstore. Go to the shelves where you want your published
book to be displayed and pull off the shelves all of the books

designs and the size of the books, including both page count
and book dimensions. Look inside the books and examine print style,
fonts and spacing of words on the page.
As you think about your published book, turn your
head off. Leave your brain at the door. Sometimes when we analyze

and your inner wisdom guide you to your own book design.
You will know what your published book will look
like when you notice yourself smiling: not when you think you should
smile, but when you actually do smile. When you pick up books that
have book designs that you love, you will notice
the corners of your lips turn up and you will feel a singing in
your heart. That is the experience you are looking for.
Your book model may be a composite of a few books, or you may be
so much in love with one published book that you
decide that your book must have exactly that look and feel. Whatever
the situation, when you leave that bookstore you will know your
ideal book model. You will know precisely what you want your published
book to look like. Then, later on when you talk with your
graphic designer, you will know exactly how to guide that person
to your perfect book.
