Write That Book: Get it Clear, Get it Down,
Get it Out by Serena Williamson, PhD

Your
Chapter Outline
Capture Those Ideas
As soon as a chapter outline begins to come to you, write it down.
Remember, it is not cast in stone. You are temporarily creating
a structure within which to capture and organize your ideas. Nothing
is permanent until you sign off on proofs from the printer. Until
then, everything is moveable. But if you keep moving everything,
you will never get the book written so you need to create a working
table of contents as soon as possible, and stick by it.
The problem, and it is actually a blessing in disguise, is that
once you have put your right brain into gear and you are writing
regularly, you will find that you get ideas out of the blue, all
the time. Ideas for new chapters will emerge, as will creative thoughts
or groups of words that belong in various chapters. Great chapter
titles and even the absolute perfect subtitle for the book will
come to you at the oddest times. You could be driving on the highway,
talking to a friend on the telephone, or taking a shower, and you
will get five ideas, all of which belong in different parts of your
book. You now need to develop a process to capture these thoughts.
