For some this is an easy question to answer, or they think it is
easy. Robert came to me with a 64-page manuscript. He said he wanted
to write a leadership book, gave me the manuscript and asked what
he needed to do to turn it into a book. Because there are so many
wonderful books on leadership already on the market, we had to help
Bob find his unique angle. It took a few months of working together
and playing with different scenarios for Bob to find his way, and
then the book almost wrote itself.
Heather was very clear about her subject. She is a financial planner
who wished she could get her younger clients to sit down and have
a cup of coffee and a chat with her older clients. Her book does
just that. What she needed was someone to help her find the time
to write and keep her project moving forward in her very busy life.
Susan and Frances had no idea what they wanted to write about.
They just knew they had to write a book. Ideas for four or five
books swirled around in their heads and they did not know where
to begin.
There seems to be one common problem for all people who want to
write a book and have not done it yet. For one reason or another,
they can’t seem to get around to it. For some it is the book
that has been hiding in the drawer for years. For others it is the
idea that has been sitting on the back burner but they just can’t
find the time. For yet others it is the volume of information in
their heads or filing cabinets and they do not know where to begin.
For still others it is the inability to choose from the many projects
that they are anxious to get started on.
