Write That Book: Get it Clear, Get it Down, Get it OutMake the Commitment to Writing: Create the Time

Not an Option

What a busy world we live in! Many people seem to be so frazzled that they do not even have the time to breathe. One of the chief complaints people make about book-writing is that although they would love to write, they cannot imagine how they could possibly fit it into their busy schedule.

I learned a valuable lesson about priorities when my eldest child was only four years old. We started Suzuki piano lessons. In Suzuki, one of the reasons they have such incredible success with very young children is that they instruct the parents to make practising piano or violin or cello a normal, non-optional part of each day, like brushing teeth. Would you tell me that you do not have time to brush your teeth, or do the dishes, or put gas in your car? We always find the time to do the things that we consider important. Isn’t it amazing how we find the time to do chores, but often treat the things that we love to do as options? We also treat the things we need to do to nourish our bodies and souls as options. How often do people rush off to work and skip breakfast? They say they do not have the time, but actually feel righteous because they think they are watching their weight. Hmmm. How many people work right through lunch?
