Your
Body of Knowledge: Back to You
by James Emmett
Our bodies are wonderful testaments to our lives, embracing both
what we inherited from our parents and ancestors, and the way we
live now. Stretch marks, stress lines on the face, back trouble,
irritable bowel along with hundreds of other conditions not only
tell others about our life and lifestyle, but also remind us what
we should or shouldn't continue to do to our mind, body, soul and
spirit. Thus, your body has the knowledge of experience from physical,
mental and emotional events.
As a practitioner it is my job to help the patient unlock the truths
from their body to allow them to begin their healing journey.
The Chiropractic Journey
My chiropractic experience started with a neck injury during a high
school football practice. I had a helmet-to-helmet hit with our
middle linebacker. The only difference in our head positions was
that Mark's hit me with his head centered between his shoulders,
and mine was tilted towards the right. Upon contact I immediately
felt a "pop" and lack of movement in my neck. Over the next several
hours and into the next morning it continued to worsen such that
I was unable to turn my head in any direction, or look up or down.
With no other option apparent to me, I went to see my MD. After
his examination, he suggested I see "this guy" just down the street.
No mention of the word chiropractic was made. Just "this guy".
So I arrived at the chiropractor's office with no clue to what
I was supposed to do and say. Taking a history and conducting a
thorough exam he broke the news to me. I had a subluxation at the
fifth and sixth segments of my neck. A sub-what?!! What do you do,
cast it? "This guy" told me that a simple adjustment was all that
was needed.
Following the first adjustment of my life I experienced 75 percent
greater movement in my neck. Several more adjustments over the next
few weeks and I returned to 100 percent. Continuing with care on
a preventative basis would have been the best thing to do, but I
had to wait many more years to discover the benefits of that.
