Dealing With Stress – Specialized Drills and Skills
Twenty Training Tips
This chapter offers Twenty Training Tips: strategies that you can use immediately to better manage your stress. This is not rocket science. These strategies are probably the same things that you would advise for people you care about- family members, friends, colleagues, patients. Let's debunk the myth - Yes, you know about them, but you are not actually doing them yourself! Physician, heal thyself.
Imagine a cloud full of the names of these people you care about. Open that cloud slightly and add your name to it. Having understood why you could not allow yourself the same "luxury" in the past, let's consciously decide how you can move forward in a healthier way.
1. Take care of yourself first .
When you initially board an airplane, and are taken through the safety demonstration, you are told, that in the event of an emergency, you must secure your own oxygen mask before you assist someone else. This is to ensure that you do not pass out before you can help others. You are no good to anyone else if you have passed out.
