Will I still live to be 120?
What about the future?
So you have hypoglycemia or you strongly suspect you do. What
does this mean for the future? That depends on what you do about
it. If you do nothing, you are inviting diabetes and heart disease.
As we discussed in an earlier chapter, hypoglycemics are often
insulin resistant. Insulin resistance tends to increase as you get
older and leads to high cholesterol and high triglycerides—the
infamous Syndrome X.
Hypoglycemia is an indication that your metabolism is not working
as well as it should be. Your metabolism is affected by many things—everything
from genetics to exercise, stress and diet. When you were twenty,
you could probably eat almost anything, drink quite a lot, deprive
yourself of sleep and manage large stresses. This could have led
you to believe that you’re not affected by your diet or lifestyle.
But now you have hypoglycemia and you’ve probably also put
on some weight. Even though you are eating better and maybe sleeping
more than you did in college, you’ve started having all these
disturbing symptoms.
