What supplements should I take?
Vitamins, minerals and herbs
In addition to diet and exercise, it is important to supplement
with vitamins and minerals. I always thought that if I ate properly
(and I assumed that I knew how to do this) I wouldn’t need
to take any “pills”. Unfortunately, this isn’t
true, especially for hypoglycemics. Fluctuating blood sugar causes
constant stress on the system and uses up vitamins and minerals
much more quickly than normal.
The following sections list many of the vitamins, minerals and
herbals that are useful for reducing hypoglycemia symptoms. Some
of the supplements recommended also help to lessen the cravings
for sugar and carbohydrates and some even appear to improve the
underlying conditions that cause the hypoglycemia. The supplements
are listed in alphabetical order with the most important supplements
marked with an asterisk (*).
The first section lists thirty supplements that are suggested as
useful for hypoglycemia in the literature. Please don’t view
this as a shopping list and fill your cart with 30 bottles of pills
and powders. Instead, this section is intended to help you to have
an informed conversation with your medical practitioner to decide
which supplements may be right for you.
