What can I eat?
What are we eating?
Books, web sites, newspapers and television shows about diets and
dieting abound. If you were to ask, “Do we really need another
diet?” you would be asking a legitimate question. We already
have “Eat Right for Your Type”, “Dr. Kushner’s
Personality Type Diet”, “The Zone” diet, and dozens
of others.
I would argue that each of us needs just one more diet, our own.
Many of us, and hypoglycemics especially, are sensitive to particular
foods. Over time, we need to work out which foods make us feel good
and which foods don’t. Keeping a record of how we respond
to various foods is the first step in learning to eat what we need.
There was a time when I would have been very skeptical of the previous
statements. For one thing, I always fight any implication that I
might not be “normal” (whatever that means). For another,
I always thought, “If it was good enough for my grandparents,
it should be good enough for me.”
