Other conditions that may affect me
There’s more?
You would think that dealing with hypoglycemia is enough for any
one person, but for many people, hypoglycemia is only part of the
picture. Hypoglycemia often shows up with other conditions and it
really muddies the waters when it comes to diagnosis. Most hypoglycemics
aren’t as severely challenged as Sigrid is, but many of us
do have a combination of conditions. Some are linked, but cause
and effect are almost impossible to figure out. In some cases, the
conditions that have set us up for hypoglycemia have also weakened
our immune system, making us more susceptible to other problems,
allergies, for instance.
This chapter will list many of the conditions often seen in conjunction
with hypoglycemia and provide information, where it exists, about
how they are linked.
Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, in her book The Schwarzbein Principle II,
says that hypoglycemia (among other things) can cause a reduction
in the production of serotonin, and it is the low level of serotonin
that contributes to a nasty list of problems including:
- Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Depression
- Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
- Fibromyalgia
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Migraine headaches
