Part 6 - The Grand Finale
Back at the Happy Ending
It has been quite a ride. Searching, writhing, stumbling, drifting,
evolving. Depression has been the single most influential determining
factor in my life. Whether it has been low-lying and simmering beneath
the surface, or full-blown and completely incapacitating me, it
has coloured every page of my story and affected each decision at
every crossroad, and critically affected the connectivity in every
personal encounter along the way. I didn’t get all that I
had once hoped to get out of my life – no adopted children,
no teacher’s degree, no beautiful heart-shaped face and no
million dollars in my bank account – I did manage to arrive
safely into my here and now, and I think that that’s quite
an achievement in itself.
I managed to lose, or at least lighten the load of a lot of the
excess emotional baggage that I’ve been dragging along behind
me for so long – the self-loathing, the soul-draining lies,
the mice-infested apartments and even the coke-bottle glasses.
I like my life beyond depression.
