Ahoy Mates: Leadership Lessons from Successful Pirates Part I: What business are you and your people really in and why?

Strategies at ATI

“Ye cannot be all things to all people.” - Captain Bob

The ATI managers suddenly found themselves back in their own boardroom, about to resume their meeting.

Deborah started the conversation off. “It felt so good to get into the shower when I got home. Those pirate clothes stunk!”

"Just imagine sleeping in that cramped ship, on piles of wet canvass, among thirty or so snoring pirates, on the deck, or wherever,” suggested Richard.

“Not for me,” replied Valerie. “I will never see anything romantic in sailing ships again. Even as short as I am, I can’t imagine working below the deck. We would be banging our heads all day long.”

“And the food,” added Deborah. “I saw one of the officers knocking a biscuit against the mast. There was a worm on it. He proceeded to eat it after knocking the worm off it. Can you imagine?”

Schlapp!

Captain Bob had arrived.

"Ahoy me hearties! …How goes it?... What did ye learn about developing strategy for the pirates?” asked Captain Bob.
