Writing Case Study: Hypoglycemia, The Other Sugar Disease
by Anita Flegg
Anita Flegg was recently retired from a successful electrical engineering
career. As part of her new post-retirement routines, she decided
to get in shape, lose weight and generally feel better physically
and mentally. As part of this journey, she discovered that she had
hypoglycemia—low blood sugar. In researching hypoglycemia,
she found that she was unable to find all the information she wanted
in one place and she decided to write a book that answered all the
questions she had.
Challenge
Problem was, Anita had decided to write a book several times before.
She had several book outlines on her computer and most of them had
been there for years. She would start with great gusto and write
the outline of the latest book idea, but then she would start wondering
what to do next and doubt her ability to stick with it until it
was finished. And if she finished writing it, then what? How would
she find a publisher? How would she sell it? All these doubts were
just too much, and each successive project fell by the wayside.
Solution
Anita mentioned her new project, a book about hypoglycemia, to
a friend and was immediately introduced to Serena Williamson at
Book Coach Press. The weekly dose of enthusiasm and confidence that
Serena injected into the project kept the book going to completion.
And when the writing was complete, Serena brought in experienced
editors and book designers to turn the writing into a book that
Anita could hold in her hand—Hypoglycemia: The Other Sugar
Disease.
Results
With one successful book completed, Anita has had the confidence
to take her hypoglycemia expertise out into the world. She has appeared
on multiple TV and radio programs and has a thriving internet presence.
In addition, completing Hypoglycemia has shown Anita the path to
her next career and she is now writing and editing full time.
"I would never have finished my book if I hadn’t
found Serena and Book Coach Press. Her unflagging enthusiasm,
confidence and support—combined with the occasional nudge—has
turned me into a published author. The first printing of my book
has sold out, and I am working on a second edition. I have also
started work on a new book. None of this would have happened if
I hadn’t met Serena Williamson."
