Writing Case Study: Open Minds by Drs. Verspoor, Levine,
Shodjaee, Emmett and Rothschild
Doctors Verspoor, Levine, Shodjaee, Emmett and Rothschild are health
care practitioners. Rudi Verspoor is a homeopath, teacher and prolific
author. Leonard Levine is a medical doctor, Farid Shodjaee is a
dentist, James Emmett is a chiropractor, and Mary Rothschild is
a psychotherapist. All have thriving practices that embrace a wholistic
approach to health care.
Challenge
All five of these practitioners had a book in them and were passionate
about bringing their knowledge of how to integrate wholistic medicine
into people’s more traditional lifestyle. They had amassed
a wealth of eye-opening healing experiences and great success dealing
with patients in a variety of areas. Although Rudi Verspoor had
written numerous academic volumes, none of the practitioners had
written books for the general public, books that could open minds
to alternative practices in healing. And they all lamented that they
were so busy with patients that they did not have the time to write.
Solution
Serena Williamson from Book Coach Press proposed that rather than
writing an entire book, each doctor write one chapter, a chapter
detailing how his or her own mind had been opened to alternative
healing, and documenting the wondrous changes visible in patients.
Dr. Serena worked with each practitioner individually, bringing
out the unique aspects, insights and contributions in each discipline.
Book Coach Press editors then took over, tidying up the writing,
while our expert Graphic design Chief, Donald Lanouette, created
a fabulous cover.
Results
Open Minds is sold in various bookstores, online and in each of
the doctor’s offices. The doctors are receiving calls from
new patients all over the world, many of whom have found out about
them and their work through their book.
Thank you to my patient, editor and friend, Serena Williamson
for her individual initiative to get this book off the ground and
make my writings understandable.
Farid Shodjaee
Serena Williamson is that essence of compassion and wholesome
energy, which woke me from my lethargy and winter slumber and
enabled me to put this chapter together. She lifted my spirit
and nourished my psyche. She was the catalyst, the nucleus, the
font of ideas and energy, which spearheaded this book, Open Minds,
from our inner beings.
I am filled with gratitude and appreciation for her stimulus
and support. If not for Serena, I would not have been able to
complete this project. I am very proud to have been a part of
this process of awakening.
Serena rekindles in me the Buddhist idea of sharing of merit:
Idam te punna kammam-asavakkahaya vayam hotu.
May our meritorious actions lead
to the removal of all unwholesomeness. - Leonard Levine
